Residential Sewer Line Replacement Permit Requirements

This permit will allow replacement of the existing sewer line between the house or duplex only and the City clean out. The following are the minimum requirements that must be met:
  • The zoning at the address must be residential.
  • The new sewer line materials shall be cast iron, copper, vitrified clay pipe, Schedule 40 ABS or PVC plastic pipe.
  • The new sewer line must be buried a minimum of 12" below finish grade.
  • A cleanout must be placed within 2 ft. of the building and another cleanout must be installed at the property line per city standard.
  • The sewer line must be installed with a minimum 2% slope or ΒΌ" to the foot.
The Sewer Line Permit is NOT available if you are:
  • if it is part of a larger remodel project.
  • Replacing or repairing a septic tank or system.
  • Installing a new connection to the City sewer main.
Inspections
Two inspections are required for sewer line replacements:
  • A rough inspection. The rough inspection should be scheduled when the new sewer line is installed (but before it is connected to the City connection) and filled with water to check for any leaks.
  • A final inspection. The final inspection should be scheduled when all work is completed.
